Using Google Classroom is an effective way to engage students both independently and collaboratively. Google Classroom features both allow and encourage students to take ownership and individuality in their work. Utilizing Google Classroom allows students to develop real world skills such as organizational and time managment.
Once students are provided with an assignment, the are then able to use their Chromebooks, tablets, (or other devices) to research, write and produce their final project. Features included in Google Classroom allow for prompt feedback from instructors and classmates along with constant monitoring of progress,
I have found that Google Classroom works especially well for older students and students who desire enrichment both of whom are generally able to work independently.

You can provide feedback to them on the spot. It is an interactive way to communicate with students as they work.

Creating a lesson using Google Docs can engage students by providing a structure to their learning. They can click through links, analyze images, fill in graphs and charts, etc. Teachers are able to track student progress in real time, as well, which allows them to have a better grasp of students’ understanding of the lesson/assignment.

The rivers in china assignment was a game changer for me because I do a lot of map quizzes and I’ve been hesitant to do them online but this makes it so easy and the kids will for sure like this better

Creating a lesson with google docs engages students with learning because they can be interactive with the same document, either through writing, charts, maps, pictures, etc. The additional feature of how the other person can use the document is also helpful, ie. either viewing, commenting or editing.

Google docs engages students to work independently and be able focus on the task on hand. They will also be able to complete the work at home for virtual learning and for us teachers to be able to check and grade the assignment accordingly.

This feature allows the teacher to create assignments at home and then share with the students giving more flexibility for everyone to complete work at their own pace. I could see this being especially useful for sick days. In addition this allows the teacher to create customized review work rather than simply photocopying materials out of a workbook for students. Customized work gives more differentiation options for students and also gives the teacher the flexibility to focus more on the topics they deem most essential in a format with multiple visual formats and styles.
